Worked plywood example

Plywood Calculator example: 551 ft² × 1.1 = 606.1 ft² of order coverage. Dividing by 32 ft² per unit gives 18.94 units, so the purchase quantity is 19 whole units.

Package rounding and usable yield

Round to whole sheets and build a panel layout around framing spacing before treating the result as a purchase list.

Sheet area is not the full sheathing plan

Panel orientation, required edge support, staggered joints, tongue-and-groove edges, roof or floor openings, layer count, and code-required spans determine whether offcuts remain usable. Separate plywood and OSB thicknesses or grades, then lay out full sheets by zone before choosing an allowance; nominal 32-square-foot face area alone can understate awkward cuts.

Why the label value may not match the floor or wall

Panel orientation, required edge support, stagger, openings, rips, damaged edges, and the ability to reuse offcuts affect sheet count.
